Install the compiler, then run hmk edit my-notes.hmn. The editor provides a source pane and rendered preview. Your notes stay in plain UTF-8 files.

- Notes syntax: headings, marks, callouts, checklists, relationships, keyboard math, recall, and editor shortcuts.
- Document syntax: explicit components, typed properties, page layout, custom definitions, local imports, and data.
- Component reference: the accepted schema for every registered component.
- CLI and editor integration: command options, diagnostics, local editor behavior, and language-server setup.
- Python API: compile, export, inspect, and package from Python.
- Architecture: parser, semantic model, renderer, assets, and PDF pipeline.
- Supported behavior: implemented capabilities and deliberate limits.
- Compatibility policy, validation, and changelog.
Examples and downloads
The product page provides the current download. The source archive includes editable examples covering notes, editorial layouts, mathematics, chemistry, page masters, and interactive media. A rendered notes example shows actual compiler output. Download its editable source to try it locally.
Hamen Markup is free under the MIT license. No account or cloud service is required to write notes. Python dependencies and the optional Chromium download require a network connection during installation.
